The Guidebook, Third Edition : Updates and Errata | |
Here are the corrections and updates for the third edition of Yellowstone Treasures (2009). |
page 83: the map of Upper Geyser Basin shows the shape of the former Old Faithful Visitor Center. The new building shape is represented correctly on the map on p. 74. |
pp. 144-45, "Science and the Lake Bottom": East of Stevenson Island, where principal Yellowstone Lake researcher Lisa Morgan has found a set of fractures with multiple active hydrothermal vents. She has no knowledge of a "canyon" that "disappeared," something this guidebook has mentioned in previous editions. |
p. 188: To add to the note about construction: Summer 2009's construction work was between Cooke City and the Northeast Entrance. |
p. 235: The approximate size of the geyserite cone in the picture is 30 inches high by 18 inches in diameter. |
p. 249: Just up the hill from the arch is the new headquarters of the Yellowstone Association in a renovated Reamer building dating from 1903, opened in June 2009. |
p. 256: The number of wheelchair-accessible restrooms available at Mammoth is actually 8, not 6. |
p. 286, end of 6.7/6.6: This work began in summer 2009, causing half-hour and longer delays. The Norris-to-Madison road closed entirely on August 17, 2009. The same segment of the Grand Loop Road will experience construction delays during the summer of 2010. |
p. 326: As of December 2009, the Canada lynx remained on the list and the grizzly bear was back on the list after delisting. In September 2009, one federal judge ruled that the gray wolf hunt could go on although the 2008 delisting was probably illegal, while another judge ruled that the negative effects of global warming on grizzlies negates their 2007 delisting. |
p. 357: The Camping section should warn that no camping is allowed outside of the campgrounds provided. |
p. 360: The Yellowstone Association has a new phone number: 406-848-2400. |
p. 361: Xanterra Parks & Resorts has a new Web site: www.yellowstonenationalparklodges.com. |
p. 391: The following names at the bottom of this Picture Credits page should be in bold: Nathan Welch, Bengt Dellby, Tom Monego, Christy Welch, and iocolor. |
